"Cognitive Vibrations" is a contemporary installation inspired by CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy). In CBT, Molly looked at a color board as a strategy to target her driving trauma. The color board was also used towards the anxiety stemming from said trauma. In this exercise, Molly would look at a section of color while her therapist talked through scenarios and asked questions. As the color changed, morphed, or evoked feelings, Molly was directed to switch colors. The installation "Cognitive Vibrations" is a direct response to incomplete therapy.
Weaving as a form of meditation is a bulk predominance of this body of work. The small container, which can also evoke anxiety, is encompassed in these woven textiles. Filling the space with shifting color allows viewers to experience a part of the artist's coping strategy. Staring at the abundance of color for a long time should provoke emotions for the viewer. As each intentional color stripe shifts in and out of the opposite color, the installation vibrates what viewers see. The colors can change the appearance or focus through warm and cool tones. Each color subtly transforms when paired with different color or texture.
Molly questions what we are seeing and how it makes viewers feel. If you stare long enough, does the image change? Do the colors change? Do our emotions change? If we see one color, is it actually that color, or is it affected by the proximity to the next color? This installation vibrates our vision through excess color, pattern, and texture.
